The coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) recently has become fatal pandemic in the past hundred years. The ACE2 is a major entry receptor for causative coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and expressed in various extrapulmonary tissues, hence, direct viral tissue damage has been proposed a possible mechanism of injury. Since pandemic started, various already existed drugs were approved as first-line treatment for COVID-19 patients. Although, several already existing drugs, including tocilizumab, remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, baricitinib, and arbidol have shown great potential for COVID-19 management by inhibiting SARS-CoV-2, however, various studies have discouraged their use in the treatment of COVID-19 patients. Here, we review the pathophysiology and transmission of COVID-19, multi-organ dysfunction caused by SARS-CoV-2, efficacy and safety of major repurposed drugs that have been initially proposed or already being investigated in clinical trials to treat COVID-19 patients.
Introduction: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are inflammatory urinary tract infections caused by an unusual pathogen. The aim of this study is to investigate the utility of catalase test in the early diagnosis of UTIs. Methodology: The study involved 201 patients suspected to be infected with UTI and admitted to Near East Hospital between March and September 2020. The urine samples of the patients were microscopically analyzed after testing for catalase, nitrite and leukocyte esterase. Moreover, urine samples were inoculated onto blood agar and eosin methylene blue agar. Conventional microbiological techniques and vitek2 automated identification system were used for bacterial identification. Results: Total participants represented 87 (43.3%) male and 114 (56.7%) female. The bacterial growth was observed in 37 (18.4 %) specimens. Among them, 29 (78%) was tested positive for catalase activity, leucocyte esterase and nitrite tests. Erythrocyte strip positivity and catalase test positivity were 65 (78.0%), while leukocyte positivity in patients with cystitis were 26 (24.1 %). The sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value and positive predictive value of the catalase test were 90.6 %, 33.7 %, 95%, and 20.5 %, respectively, compared to the catalase test results of the culture test. Conclusion: Catalase test is a simple, fast, and low-cost test that detects all positive results. It would be an effective alternative screening test for detecting bacteriuria or pyuria. However, catalase test is very sensitive but not very specific for early detection of UTI.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity $1\\neq 0$. Zero-divisor graph of $R$ is a graph with vertex set as non-zero zero-divisors of $R$ such that distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if $x.y = 0$. In this article, we investigate some operations of zero-divisor graphs of commutative rings. We discuss the diameter and girth of tensor product and lexicographic product of some zero divisor graphs and also determine the diameter of these graphs.
In this study, the fruit quality changes including the physiological and pathological disorders that occurred during the storage of fruits of different types of cherry laurel were determined. Fruits were harvested from eight different cherry laurel trees in Ordu stored and maintained at 0°C and 90% relative humidity for 60 days. The samples were taken at the beginning of the storage and 15 days intervals during the storage period and some quality changes and losses were examined. Fruit weight, width, and height of examined cherry laurel genotypes ranged between 1.80-4.93 g, 14.27-20.95 mm, and 13.75-19.21 mm respectively. The dominant sugar is fructose in cherry laurel and ranged between 6.93-8.03 g/100 g fresh weight (FW) and the amount of glucose was 1.89-2.22 g/100 g FW. After 60 days of storage, except genotype 3, decay was determined in the fruits of cherry laurel at a rate of 12.46-1.92%. At the end of the storage, maximum weight loss was observed at genotype 4 (4.92%), whereas the lowest weight loss was in genotype 1 (1.38%). During storage, the highest h° value, total soluble solids, and titratable acidity contents were found in genotypes 3 and 4, whereas the tensile strength and the C* value were the lowest. Genotype 3 exhibited the average total phenol content and antioxidant activity was the highest as 312.0 mg GAE/100 g and 125.70 µmol TE/g fresh weight respectively. The best overall score is obtained from the fruit of genotype 8 at the end of storage while genotypes 4 and 3 showed browning. The results indicate that cherry laurel fruits showed significant differences in physical, chemical, and biochemical properties. All genotypes of laurel fruits could be stored for 45 days; however, genotypes 2, 7, and 8 could be stored for 60 days successfully.
The main objective of augmented reality (AR) technology is to superimpose computer-generated information directly into a user’s sensory perception, rather than replacing it with a completely synthetic environment. \nThe findings presented in this paper are the outcome of an ongoing research project called the Virtual Interactive Teaching Environment (VITE). This system was designed to enable the educator to use more sophisticated techniques and as a result to help the students to learn more effectively through the use of Virtual Multimedia, it’s a new learning style of education. The contribution of this current interactive system takes into consideration both technological and educational issues.\nAs well this paper is a combination of a review of the papers related to applications of virtual reality and augmented reality with special attention to using the respective approaches in the case of autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs) and of a description of the studies of the authors dealing with the corresponding problem. The major emphasis is put on the elements that contribute to the amelioration of communicative and emotional skills in such children, mainly related to modeled applications, computers, and an output interface (projection). This study, therefore, focuses on the understanding of the elements simplifying the development of these new information and communication technologies. In order to answer our queries, we used exploratory interviews and specific reviews, such as virtual or augmented reality environments used to provide children with ASD a database containing varied and multimodal information for various purposes: a display of the 3D environment and its constituent objects, understanding of the task, an increase in the salience of certain objects, issuance of instructions associated with interaction with the environment in order to increase the capacity of an individual to process and use received information to allow a better performance of the activities of daily living (ADL).
